SPINSFrom SPCoastSPINS is a standard method of identifying industries and switching zones, tracks and consignee loading and unloading spots. By giving zones, tracks and spots certain designated numbers, we are able to print switch lists with the exact location to which a customer's car is to be spotted. The following SPINS documents have been scanned into PDF files:
A SPINS number contains up to eight digits. The first two digits always indicate the zone to which the car is destined; the next two digits, track within a zone and the following two or four digits, actual spot or a range of spots where a car is to be placed. Example:
Zone/Track numbers appear on switch targets. Spot signs appear where customers normally load or unload cars. Spot signs are 6"x6" green metal signs with four-inch reflectorized numbers. These signs are placed about 12 inches above ground, at the center of a car spot for spotting from the opposite side of the car. (*) Asterick before and after a spot number indicates preferred spots. Where it is not practical to place signs, one of the following spotting codes will appear on your printed lists in place of the actual spot number:
