SEMINARY TUITION AND HOSPITALITY: MAY 2009
MODERATOR: The Rt. Rev. Mary Gray-Reeves, Bishop, Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real
Description of the project: Seminary Tuition and Hospitality during visit of Triad Partners in September
Seminary Tuition and Hospitality Launch Committee: Approximately 6 members of parishes in the Diocese of El Camino Real.
Summary of Discussion:
- Elda Katoto, female seminarian in need of tuition assistance for seminary education in Uganda
- She would be the first female under consideration for ordination by Bishop Gerard
- A donation of approximately $4000 US would cover her seminary education for one year
- Hospitality for Triad relationship partners arriving in September
- $2000-$3000 are required to underwrite the visit due to unanticipated shortfall
- The visitors will require assistance in the form of gas, food, lodging etc.
- Members of the delegation from Tanzania will very likely need to be placed two to a home as to facilitate the transition from their context to our distinctly Western context.
Next Steps:
- Bishop Mary will compose an e-mail to diocesan clergy inquiring whether clergy would be willing to donate $100 each from their discretionary fund accounts to fund one year of seminary education for Elda.
- This item is complete as of June 1st.
- E-mail will be followed up with a phone call from a member of the group participants
- List of clergy will be split up between each of the members for follow-up
- What other information needs to be obtained etc.?
- There is a requirement to identify donors who are willing to provide 'larger' support to help with hospitality expenses during triad relationship visit to El Camino Real.
